Actors Theatre of Indiana (ATI) is Hamilton County’s only professional equity theatre company and is the city of Carmel’s Resident Professional Theatre Company, setting the highest artistic standards, creating the powerful experience of shared theatre for its community. ATI is the proud recipient of the ABC RTV Channel 6 / the INDYchannel.com A-LIST WINNER voted BEST THEATRE GROUP IN INDY having won the award for the past four consecutive years (2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010)! The Indianapolis Business Journal’s Arts & Entertainment Editor Lou Harry voted ATI’s production of A Year With Frog & Toad one of 2007’s A&E’s Best saying "This is theater that talks directly to kids while moving open -to-the experience adults. Actors Theatre of Indiana gave us a very lovely gift this year. Frog would say “thank you.” So would Toad. So do I.” Since its incorporation in 2005, Actors Theatre of Indiana has produced the world premiere of such works as – A Rosie Evening: The Music of Rosemary Clooney, This Could Be The Start of Something Big!, Broadway Brass: A Tribute to the Great Ladies of Broadway, Stardust Memories: The Life & Music of Hoagy Carmichael and the Indiana premieres of Beyond The Rainbow – The Judy Garland Story;  MY WAY: A Musical Tribute to Frank Sinatra;  A Year With Frog & Toad,  Sisters of Swing: The Story of the Andrews Sisters.

Actors Theatre of Indiana has continuing strong business relationships with: the Georgia Ensemble Theatre;  Printing Partners, Inc.The Wellington Theatre Group, The Mansion at Oak Hill, and  McGuire Scenic, Inc. a local I.A.T.S.E. scenic shop, who off-sets production costs through the sponsorship of storage of our sets, costumes and props, and donations of scenic pieces. The Indiana Historical Society approached ATI to commission and perform a special cabaret evening “Anything Goes: The World & Music of Cole Porter”. Since that time ATI has performed in the Concerts on the Canal Series and numerous special events in Lilly Hall. The Indianapolis Children’s Museum approached ATI to co-present a production of their A Year with Frog & Toad in 2008.  ATI is also an active member of the League of Indianapolis Theatres

In the past, ATI has presented at Pike Performing Arts Center, Zionsville Performing Arts Center, The Indiana Historical Society, Indianapolis Children’s Museum, American Cabaret Theatre  while always staying involved in the Carmel community through membership with the Chamber of Commerce and the Hamilton County Convention & Visitors Bureau, participating in annual festivals such as CarmelFest, The International Arts Festival and Holidays in the Arts & Design District along with special appearances requested by the Mayor for Veterans Day, Ground Breaking Ceremonies and the unveiling of artwork in the down town area along with the ATI Cabaret Series, Annual Fundraiser and their 2009 production of Forbidden Broadway all having been presented at the Oak Hill Mansion.  

Educational programs include:

  • School matinees of A YEAR WITH FROG AND TOAD reaching more than 1,600 children and provides reduced admission prices to more than 75 children and 40 high-risk children with free admission.  Using the Frog and Toad stories by Arnold Lobel, 
  • Home Run for Health, a musical collaboration with the Indianapolis Indians Organization which toured through the Central Indiana elementary school system educating kids on the importance of staying healthy and eating right. 
  • Free performances throughout the year in neighborhoods and community events throughout Marion, Boone and Hamilton Counties including Riley Hospital for Children and through partnering with the Indianapolis Central Library by providing free content for their new children's programs: "See A Story" and "Call A Story".
  • Free musical theatre art therapy workshops for over 100 students of NOBLE OF INDIANA and DAMAR ACADEMY. Both organizations have structured environments designed to provide residential, educational and social support for children and adults with developmental and behavioral disabilities.
  • The ATI Musical Theatre Intensive Workshop given each July by invitation only to 16 young performers. Those participating in the Workshop/Master Class learn valuable inside information on auditioning, performing, self promotion, and making the most of one’s strengths. Training includes: picking the right material, cold readings, nailing a dance combination, putting together an audition book, putting together a resume, having an appropriate picture, What to Do Once You Land the Job, Great Character Development. 
  • A YEAR WITH FROG AND TOAD school and library tour throughout Marion, Hamilton and Boone counties.  Through this musical ATI Teaches children learning life lessons, including a most important one about friendship and rejoicing in the attributes that make each of us different and special.

 

Actors Theatre of Indiana has been fortunate enough to receive a grant each year from the city of Carmel. The organization continues to strengthen their commitment to the community by participating in a number of local events and festivals. In April of 2011 ATI became the Professional Resident Theatre Company in the Carmel Center for the Performing Arts opening with the smash hit, CHICAGO. One more step in the right direction to put the city of Carmel on the map for the arts.
